La «Poésie en bois» est le nom de l’exposition des sculptures en bois de 1997: une célébration des secrètes correspondances qui font la magie de l’art. Renouant avec une matière dont l’artiste excelle à conjuguer tout à la fois la douceur et la force, elle en allie l’expressivité aux qualités de la parole poétique – association audacieuse et rare que celle de la nécessaire pesanteur de la sculpture avec les mots.

Les corps sculptés sont investis de poèmes (par W. Bouter, L. Hoffmann, A. Koltz, I. Muller, Li Po, J. Portante, I. Ritsos, A. Simoncini, M. Thoma et G. Wagner) auxquels ils insufflent à leur tour, dans un échange subtil, la poésie de leur matière, de leur couleur et de leurs formes.

Souples, parfois plus strictes, ils lancent leur silhouettes longilignes dans l’espace et dessinent des êtres où se noue la rencontre de la terre avec l’air et de la matière avec l’esprit. Ce difficile dialogue, dans lesquels les différentes formes d’expression parviennent à s’harmoniser, dévoile une conception élargie de la sculpture. Les recherches formelles deviennent quête spirituelle, que Marie-Josée Kerschen poursuit également dans la série «Gods under Arrest», pièces de grands formats où les textes ont disparu pour laisser place à la libre expression des formes et des volumes, et où l’élégante stylisation des plus petites pièces s’efface devant une étonnante puissance intérieure.
